Dr Jane Monckton-Smith


Dr Jane Monckton-Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Gloucestershire and an Independent Domestic Homicide Review Chair. She is an expert in the area of homicide, stalking, domestic abuse and criminal investigation.

She is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Gloucestershire as well as maintaining a wide portfolio of professional activity. 

This includes chairing Domestic Homicide and Mental Health Reviews and Inquiries, advising police at a local and national level, working with national stalking and homicide charities, and working with multiple organisations in their responses to domestic abuse, homicide and stalking. In tandem with this Jane works with individuals bereaved by homicide who may need help with police and criminal justice processes,

The recommendations from her latest research have been developed into a Domestic Abuse Reference Tool which is being piloted by police and has interest from many large and small organisations.  

As well as speaking regularly in public and giving master-classes in domestic homicide and stalking, Jane is regularly called upon to comment on issues of interpersonal violence in the media, and has written books focused on violence and also investigation.
